Q 1. How long Audit records are retained?

• The default retention period for Audit (Standard) has changed from 90 days to 180 days.
• Audit (Standard) logs generated before October 17, 2023 are retained for 90 days.
• Audit (Standard) logs generated on or after October 17, 2023 follow the new default retention of 180 days.

Q 2. How to run diagnostics to help identify the root cause of issues and provide remediation options

•  We can troubleshoot issues at Purview compliance portal > Data Loss Prevention > Run diagnostics

Q 3. What is Microsoft Purview DLP?

• Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) is a tool. It helps prevent accidental sharing of sensitive information. The tool applies policies across various digital environments.
• These policies detect and respond to specific types of data. They include credit card numbers or personal identification details. This ensures that sensitive information is protected and managed effectively.

Q 4. What are the locations in DLP?

• DLP policies can be applied across a wide range of platforms.
• Locations include:
  • Exchange Online for email
  • SharePoint and OneDrive for stored and shared files
  • Microsoft Teams for chat and shared documents
  • Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS (latest three versions) for endpoint protection
  • Non-Microsoft cloud apps monitored through Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps
  • On-premises file shares and on-premises SharePoint
  • Microsoft Fabric and Power BI for data analytics and reporting

Q 5. What are the permissions required to Manage, Create and Deploy DLP Policies?

• To create, manage, or deploy DLP policies, our account must be part of one or more of these role groups:
  • Compliance Administrator
  • Compliance Data Administrator
  • Information Protection Admin
  • Security Administrator

Q 6. What permissions require to view Role groups in the Roles and scopes area in the Microsoft Purview portal?

• Users need to be a global administrator or
• Need to be assigned the Role Management role (a role is assigned only to the Organization Management role group)
• The Role Management role allows users to view, create, and modify role groups.

Q 7. What is Data Classification? Why Data Classification is important?

• Data classification is identifying, categorizing, and labeling the data based on its sensitivity and business value.
• By classifying data organizations can apply security controls, governance policies and compliance measures to protect data from unauthorized access.
• Proper classification ensures that security, compliance, and governance policies are applied effectively.

Q 8. Which Data Classification methods Microsoft Purview provides?

• Sensitive information types (SITs)
• Trainable classifiers

Q 9. What are Trainable Classifiers?

• Trainable classifiers use AI to classify the data.
• Trainable classifiers are useful for detecting unstructured data such as contracts, financial reports or HR Records etc.
• Trainable classifiers are used to identify complex data which SIT can not classify.

• Pretrained classifiers
• Custom trainable classifiers
