Hello All,

Greetings for the day!!!

Continue to share Microsoft Entra questions and answers. These will help to prepare interviews, certifications.

If you want details for any concept/feature of Microsoft Entra, please specify in comment box. I’ll try to have an article for the same.

Q 1 . Which are the different types of Microsoft 365 user identities?

  • Cloud identities
  • Synchronized identities
  • Federated identities

Q 2 . What is Cloud Identity ?

  • A cloud identity is a user account that only exists in Microsoft Entra ID.

Q 3 . What is Synchronized identity?

  • A synchronized identity is a user that exists in an on-premises AD DS and in Microsoft 365.

Q 4 . Which tools are used to synchronize the accounts in on-premises ADDS and in Microsoft 365?

  • Microsoft Entra Connect Sync
  • Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync

Q 5. What is Federated identity?

  • A federated identity refers to an identity that an external identity provider (IdP) authenticated.

Q 6. What is Pass-Through Authentication (PTA)?

  • PTA is an authentication method provided by Microsoft 365.
  • This method allows us to authenticate directly against on-premises Active Directory. We bypass the Microsoft Entra ID cloud-based authentication.
  • When an organization enables PTA, authentication for synchronized identities bypasses Microsoft 365 and occurs directly against the on-premises Active Directory.
  • If an organization doesn’t enable PTA, authentication for synchronized identities occurs in Microsoft 365. In this scenario, Microsoft 365 evaluates the username and password without any reliance on the on-premises infrastructure.
  • When a user tries to access a federated service, such as Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID redirects the authentication request. The request goes to a designated and trusted IdP.

Q 7. What are the options available to provision user accounts in Microsoft 365?

  • We can use the below methods to provision the user accounts
    • Microsoft 365 admin center
    • Microsoft Graph PowerShell
    • Directory synchronization

Q 8. Which roles have permissions to add or remove the licenses to users?
