Q 3. How long Audit records are retained?
- The default retention period for Audit (Standard) has changed from 90 days to 180 days.
- Audit (Standard) logs generated before October 17, 2023 are retained for 90 days.
- Audit (Standard) logs generated on or after October 17, 2023 follow the new default retention of 180 days.
Q 4. What is the Microsoft Purview Information Protection scanner??
- The Microsoft Purview Information Protection scanner is a Windows Server-based service that can scan, classify, and optionally label or protect files stored in:
- UNC paths (SMB or NFS, preview)
- SharePoint Server document libraries (2013 through 2019)

- From Microsoft Purview home page, from left pane, select – Solutions >> Data Loss Prevention >> Policies

Q 6. What is a Sensitive Information Type?
- Finding sensitive data between all the data produced in an organization requires different search and recognition patterns, which are called sensitive information types
- Sensitive information types (SITs) in Microsoft Purview help organizations identify and protect sensitive data such as
- personal identification numbers,
- financial information, and
- intellectual property.
Q 7. Why sometime we need to create custom Sensitive Information Type?
- Custom SITs can also be created to protect organization-specific data such as employee IDs and proprietary project codes.
- For organizations with more specific needs, custom SITs offer flexibility in identifying and securing unique data sets.
- This ensures that sensitive information remains protected, aligned with the organization’s governance and compliance strategies.

Q 10. Which are the tools available to monitor sensitivity label usage?
- Data and Content explorer: Real-time snapshot of content with sensitivity, retention, or classification tags.
- Activity explorer: Timeline of label interactions and content usage based on audit data.
- Reports dashboard: High-level trends, SIT distribution, and top label usage across the organization.
