Microsoft Teams: Upcoming change: disabling Teams meeting recording expiration notification emails
Hi All,
Greetings.
Today, I’m sharing small but important upcoming update regarding Microsoft Teams meetings
Update: Starting June 1, 2026, Microsoft will stop sending Teams meeting recording expiration notification emails for all Microsoft 365 tenants to reduce notification noise
Details:
- Microsoft will stop sending Teams meeting recording expiration notification emails
- To reduce notification noise and improve signal quality, Microsoft will disable Teams Meeting Recording (TMR) expiration notification emails
- Only the email notifications are being removed; recording expiration and deletion behavior remains unchanged
- Users will no longer receive email notifications when a Teams meeting recording expires
- This change is enabled by default
When this will happen: June 1, 2026
Important Note:
- If you need to retain any of our team meeting recordings, we need to ensure that we download them in advance and store them securely, such as:
- Uploading them to SharePoint, or
- Saving them in an appropriate Teams channel or approved storage location.
- If no action is taken, the recordings will automatically expire and be deleted, and no additional notifications will be sent.
- This may result in permanent data loss if recordings are forgotten or not backed up
- We recommend reviewing our existing recordings and taking necessary action at the earliest.
