M365 / SharePoint online – new feature – SharePoint Collapsible Sections – Very nice feature for developing interesting SharePoint pages – small development opportunity for developers :)

Today very nice feature specifically for Intranet kind of applications – Collapsible sections on Modern Pages

Feature – SharePoint Collapsible Sections

This is the oppurtunity devopers to explain this feature to customers and new development oppurtunities 🙂

Details :

• Microsoft on 1 July 2021 published news related to new feature – SharePoint Collapsible Sections – https://admin.microsoft.com/?auth_upn=prasham%40knowledgejunction1.onmicrosoft.com&source=applauncher#/MessageCenter/:/messages/MC266077 – to open hyperlink – change your UPN in URL 🙂
• This new feature will allow us to create rich, information-dense SharePoint pages
• Page author to configure sections within the SharePoint page to be able to expand, collapse
• Page authors will be able to set the default page-load state for the section – eirther expandable or collapsible

Try it out / Demo :

• Create new SharePoint page. Here I am using communication site
• Add the section to the page
• Edit the section – as shown in below fig

• Edit the section. In Section property pane we will see an option – “Make this section collapsible” as shown in above Fig
• Default setting for “Make this section collapsible” is turned Off
• Once we turned On the setting “Make this section collapsible” we have two more properties as
  • Section diaplay name – which appears with Arrow icon either down / up to expand or collapse the section as shown in below figures
  • Default display – Expanded or Collapsible

• In my exapmle I added two sections as shown in below fig

• Below figure demonstrate first section is collapsible and second section is expandable

Roll out plan :

• Early July for Targetted releases
• Late july for Standard releases
