Today new MAJOR UPDATE – This is regarding accessing our SharePoint sites and OneDrive from IE 11
MAJOR UPDATE – SharePoint and OneDrive deploying hard block for IE11 in January 2023
Details
- On 18 June 2022 we have an article – Microsoft 365 – Major Update – IE11 desktop application has retired and is out of support as of June 15, 2022 (non-LTSC, non-Server) – https://knowledge-junction.in/2022/06/18/microsoft-365-major-update-ie11-desktop-application-has-retired-and-is-out-of-support-as-of-june-15-2022-non-ltsc-non-server/
- Microsoft has retired IE 11 and stopped the support and promoting to upgrade the IE 11 with Microsoft Edge
- Microsoft 365 apps and services ended providing support for Internet Explorer 11 in August, 2021
- On 1 Nov 2022 Microsoft have new announcement / major update for the organizations which are still using the IE11
- From January 2023, there will be hard block for using IE 11 for SharePoint sites and OneDrive for all users
What happen if today I try to access my SharePoint sites / OneDrive in IE 11
- Today, when I try to access my SharePoint sites / OneDrive in IE 11 I’ll get following warning message

What happen if I will try to access my SharePoint sites / OneDrive in IE 11 in Jan 2023
- If we will try to access SharePoint sites / OneDrive in Jan 2023, because of hard block, connection requests will be failed and users will no longer will be able to access those sites
- To continue to access those sites users will need to be use modern browser like Microsoft Edge
- User will get message like in below fig

What action we need to take in our Organization / Company
- If we are still using IE11 in our organization / company its time to upgrade to avoid disruption of SharePoint / OneDrive services for our users
- We must plan now deployment modern browser like Microsoft Endge
- Microsoft is recommending deployment of Microsoft Edge browser
