Microsoft Teams – resolving – don’t have permissions to create team from another team or from template

Today new issue and solution 🙂

Today, discussing issue related with Microsoft Teams.

Background:

• I have opened teams
• I have to create new team for myself.
• So I clicked on “+” icon to create new team as in below snap

• As we click on “+” icon, menu appears with options as in below snap
  • Create channel
  • Create team
  • Join team

• Click on “Create team” option
• On “Create team” ideally we should get a pop-up with default (private team) option to create team
• But I was getting menu with below options as in below snap
  • From template – option is disabled. Not able to create team from template
  • From another team – option is disabled. Not able to create team from template
  • From group (from existing group)

Issue – You don’t have permissions to create a team from another team or You don’t have permissions to create a team from template

Solution

• Though I am “Global Administrator”, “Team Administrator” still I have an issue
• I have valid team license
• After bit googling I found that in groups settings found the setting for “Microsoft 365 Groups – Users can create Microsoft 365 groups in Azure portals, API or PowerShell” is turned off in “Microsoft Entra admin center”

• We need to enable this setting
• Navigate to Microsoft Entra admin center – https://entra.microsoft.com/#view/Microsoft_AAD_IAM/TenantOverview.ReactView?Microsoft_AAD_IAM_legacyAADRedirect=true

• As we navigate to “Microsoft Entra admin center” , we will navigate to “Groups” settings from left pane as in below snap

• We will be navigated to – Group management menu blade page – https://entra.microsoft.com/#view/Microsoft_AAD_IAM/GroupsManagementMenuBlade/~/General/menuId/General?Microsoft_AAD_IAM_legacyAADRedirect=true as in below snap

• We enabled the setting as in above snap
• As “Microsoft 365 Groups – users can create Microsoft 365 groups in Azure portals, API or PowerShell” – enabled successfully, we will able to create teams from another teams or template
