Hi All,

Greetings for the day!!!

Today, I am discussing new feature related to Microsoft Purview.

New Feature: Admins can now set up separate retention policies for Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI apps.

Details

  • This feature is enabled by default
  • Earlier, retention policies used the location Teams chats and Copilot interactions that combined Teams chat and Copilot interactions.
  • There are now separate retention locations for Teams chat and Copilot interactions.
  • This new feature provides the ability for admins to set up separate retention policies for various Microsoft 365 Copilot and AI apps
  • As a result, admins will have the choice to set up policies that can remove Copilot and Generative AI interactions faster
  • Organizations will now have controls to set up different retention policies for
    • Microsoft Teams Chat,
    • Copilot,
    • Copilot studio, and
    • ChatGPT Enterprise
  • Now we can separate Teams chats from Copilot interactions from an existing retention policy.

To make existing retention policy for a Teams chat only policy

Set-RetentionCompliancePolicy -Identity "<Policy Name>" -Applications "User:TeamsChatUserInteractions"

  • Now we can create new retention policies for just Teams chats, or for just Copilot interactions.

To add Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions to an existing retention policy for newer locations, such as Teams private channel messages and Viva Engage:

Set-AppRetentionCompliancePolicy -Identity “<policy name>” -Applications "User:M365Copilot"

At now all supported locations

  • Exchange mailboxes
  • SharePoint sites or SharePoint classic and communication sites
  • OneDrive accounts
  • Microsoft 365 Group mailboxes & sites
  • Skype for Business
  • Exchange public folders
  • Teams channel messages
  • Teams chats
  • Teams private channel messages
  • Microsoft Copilot experiences (in preview)
  • Enterprise AI apps (in preview)
  • Other AI apps (in preview)
  • Viva Engage community messages
  • Viva Engage user messages
