Microsoft Teams + Power Automate : Approvals app in Teams – workaround for – Approval Power Automate not sending approval emails to Approvers

Hi All,

Greetings for the day !!! Today new small learning !!! LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL 🙂

Background / Details :

  • We have simple two level approval process Power Automate
  • We tested in our local environment and Power Automate is working perfectly fine
    • Approvers are receiving approval emails and can Approve / Reject respective approval request
  • We exported Power Automate from our local environment and imported in our customer tenant
  • During testing in customer tenant we realized that Approvers are not receiving approval emails
  • Microsoft sends Approval emails with an account – maccount@microsoft.com
  • We verified all necessary things like
    • If Microsoft account is blocked or not – maccount@microsoft.com
    • If our IPs are restricted geographically
  • But no luck, finally we decided to raise ticket to Microsoft

Workaround : We tried Approval app in Microsoft Teams

Approval app in Microsoft Team:

  • Approvals app available in Microsoft Teams as shown in below fig

  • This app is available since last year
  • This app provides two features
    • Send request for an approval OR create new approval requests
    • Approve / Reject request which as a user / approver I receive
  • In this article we will discuss – Approve / Reject request which as a user I receive
  • When we add Approval app to the Teams we get notifications in activity feed as in below figure

  • We will receive all the requests under “Received” tab as shown in above fig
  • We have three status respectively performed by me – Rejected / Approved / Requested
  • When we click on “Requested” status link we get an dialog for Approve / Reject request as

Permissions required to add Approval app in Microsoft Teams :

  • Permissions to create a Microsoft Dataverse database
  • An account on powerautomate.microsoft.com
  • Administrator Role in the environment
  • License for Power Automate, Office 365, or Dynamics 365
  • License for Microsoft Forms is required for users to set up new approval templates

To use Approval app in Microsoft Teams we need :

  • License for Power Automate
