Hi All,

Greetings ! Today sharing one more major update related to legacy Power BI Apps (pre-audiences)

MAJOR UPDATE : Microsoft announces the retirement of legacy Power BI Apps (pre-audiences)

DETAILS

  • Microsoft announce the retirement of legacy Power BI Apps (pre-audiences)
  • Legacy Power BI apps – the versions of apps before the release of apps with audiences
  • Legacy Power BI apps (pre-audiences) will no longer be supported after May 1, 2024
  • We need to upgrade or rebuild our legacy Power BI apps (pre-audiences) using Power BI apps with audiences
  • Technical support for legacy apps will cease after the deadline – May 1, 2024
  • The new version of Power BI Apps includes changes on how you manage content, how you select Audience groups and content visibility

What action we need to take

  • We need to either upgrade or rebuild to the new Power BI apps with audiences
  • This transition will ensure us and our app users continue to have access to the latest features and support from our team

How to UPGRADE to newer version

  • We can upgrade Legacy Power BI apps directly from the workspace our app is in or from the Update app option in the authoring view
  • In both the workspace and authoring view a banner will be displayed, click Upgrade now and our app will be upgraded immediately, as shown in below fig

  • We will also see prompt in authoring view as

  • Or we have an option to rebuild the app. Unpublish the current app and create new app
