New Feature – File Viewer improvements / updates in Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint
Details
- When we navigate to files in OneDrive / SharePoint, we could see the files preview in file viewer
- Microsoft added interesting updates / improvements to File Viewer
- The enhanced file viewer for Microsoft 365 now supports over 300 file types

- The updated user interface is more intuitive, easier to navigate, and more suitable for the growing number of functionalities we will bring to file viewer in the future.
- The enhanced file viewer for Microsoft 365 offers a quick and easy way to view our files in OneDrive for the web and Microsoft SharePoint Online.
- Microsoft enhanced the design of the file viewer to make it more useful and intuitive.
- A new toolbar, new panes, and collaboration features are added.
- Performance improvements: Files now display up to 2 times more quickly than the previous version.
- The file viewer in Microsoft 365 opens by default when we access non-Office files from OneDrive, SharePoint, or Teams.
- For office files we can open file viewer by looking “Preview“.
- It’s especially handy for previewing files without having to download them and for viewing files without needing the specific app for that file type installed on your device.
- The new file viewer has a dark mode background

- The new file viewer – an updated command bar

- File navigation arrows positioned in the middle of the page

- “Open in app” option is available in file viewer. We can open files in native applications by using the “Open in app” option. When we are done working with that file in its native app, we can save it and the changes will sync back to OneDrive.
