What is Pomodoro Technique
- Life changing technique. One of the popular time management method.
- One of the best method to avoid procrastination, fully focus on studies with interest.
- Following are detailed steps
- Commit to focus on one task.
- Set the timer for 25 minutes (we can choose any duration till 60 minutes – we call each interval as pomodoro) – basically lock yourself for selected duration.
- In this duration – do as much as work we can do or study – we need to block this time and completely focus on one task – do not let yourself to do anything else. This is one of the habit of successful peoples.
- As timer rings, take a break of 4-5 minutes (small walk / food, sip on water, try to avoid screen).
- To take break helps to concentrate in studies.
- Repeat this process 3-4 times, then may take longer break – 30 – 45 minutes.
- After long break start from point 2 again.
- If our tasks finishes within time or time lefts then we must have planned tasks in between like
- Reviewing our completed task.
- Reading the book.
- Reviewing our to do lists or next planned pomodoros.
- Cirillo – suggest use this time to overlearning, note what we finished.
- This technique is basically for preparing our mind to finish the task.
- Very effective technique to help us to getting things done.
- This technique is adaptable because it more focus on consistency.

Some rules to follow – For effective use of this technique, please note it down following points
- Decide the subject / tasks on which we want to work for specific pomodoro -selected time.
- Keep pen and paper with you – have a todo list of tasks for selected duration.
- If task is big, divide the tasks into smaller tasks.
- Use timer to track the time.
- Once timer started for specific tasks, then no distraction like Email checking, Food, sip on water, no phone calls, no social media checking, no chat etc. completely locking till the timer rangs.
- In between new ideas comes just note it down and come back later.
- If in case of emergency or unavoidable break, take few minutes break. But please track the break – why we need to take and can it be avoidable in next session.
