Greetings for the day!!!

Today small but important learning article for Teams administrators.

What are Channel Policies?

  • Channel policies in Microsoft Teams are used to control what users in our organization can do in Teams and Channels.
  • Example – We can set whether users are allowed to create Private or Shared channels

How to manage Teams / Channels policies?

  • From settings page, click on “Teams” from right pane under “Org wide default settings” >> Teams & channels (4) as shown in above fig
  • As we click on “Teams” from right pane under “Org wide default settings” >> Teams & channels (4) we will be redirected to “Teams settings (Teams Channels)” page – https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/one-policy/settings/teams-channels as

  • From Teams settings page, Teams Administrator can control / manage following settings :
    • Discover private teams – This settings allows users to search for private channels. Then users can request for joining private channels.
    • Create private channels – Team owners and members with permission can create private channels for a specific group of users.
    • Create shared channels – Team owners can create the shared channel for users in our organization and outside the organization.
    • Invite external users to shared channels – Owners of a shared channel can invite external users to join the channel, if Microsoft Entra ID external policies are configured.
    • Join external shared channels – Users and teams can be invited to external shared channel, if Microsoft Entra ID external shared policies are configured.
