Microsoft 365 Administration – How to update Password expiration policy for the tenant

In this article we will discuss how to update “Password Expiration Policy” for whole tenant.
Detailed Steps
- As the admin of an organization, we’re responsible for setting the password policy for users in your organization.
Below roles have permissions to update the “Password Expiration Policy”
- Global Administrator
- User admin
Below are the detailed steps to update the “Password Expiration Policy”.
- Navigate to Microsoft 365 admin center
- Navigate to Microsoft 365 admin center either through office 365 portal or from direct link – https://admin.microsoft.com/
- From office portal – navigate to URL – https://portal.office.com

- From “Microsoft 365 admin center“, from left pane, expand “Settings” choice as

- From “Settings” options, we will navigate to “Org settings” page as

- From “Org settings” page, navigate to “Security & privacy” tab.
- From “Security & privacy” tab, click on “Password expiration policy” link as shown in above figure.
- By default, passwords are set to never expire for our organization.
- Right pane will appear, where we can set the options like
- Set password never expire
- Days before password expire

Few important points
- Users who only use the Outlook app won’t be forced to reset their Microsoft 365 password until it runs out in the cache. This can be several days after the actual expiration date.
