OneDrive : MAJOR UPDATE – Microsoft will remove “Everyone Except External Users” permission from OneDrive root web and from default OneDrive document library
Hi All,
Greetings for the day!!!
Today I am sharing MAJOR UPDATE related to OneDrive.
MAJOR UPDATE: Starting April 10, 2025, Microsoft will remove the EEEU (Everyone Except External Users) permission from the root site of each user’s OneDrive and from the default document library in OneDrive
Details
- Starting April 10, 2025, Microsoft will remove the EEEU (Everyone Except External Users) permission from the root site of each user’s OneDrive
- This change will end by September 30, 2025.
- The permission will also be removed from the default document library in OneDrive.
- Starting April 10, 2025 and ending by September 30, 2025, Microsoft will run logic to detect and remove the EEEU permission from the root site of each user’s OneDrive and the default document library in OneDrive
- Users, processes, and apps that were granted direct permissions to specific files and folders of a OneDrive account will not be affected and will continue to keep their access
- Microsoft recommend OneDrive owners and OneDrive admins give explicit permission to individual files and folders in OneDrive to be accessed by one or more users or apps
- This change will prevent inadvertent access by apps, processes, or users.
What is EEEU – Everyone Except External Users permission setting
- Everyone Except External Users, is a permission setting used in Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft OneDrive to manage access to content.
- This setting allows all internal users in an organization to access certain content while excluding external users
- Microsoft is discouraging use of this setting due to concerns about inadvertent oversharing of user data.
