Microsoft 365: Major Update – Retirement of Outlook Lite app – Action required by Oct 6, 2025

Today, I am sharing one of the MAJOR UPDATE related to Outlook Lite app.
MAJOR UPDATE: Outlook Lite app is retiring
Details:
- The Outlook Lite app will retire starting October 6, 2025.
- After October 6, 2025, new installation will be blocked.
- Existing users can continue using the app for a limited time before full retirement.
- New installs and requiring users to switch to the Outlook Mobile app.
- Outlook mobile app offers enhanced features, security, and Microsoft 365 integration.
- No manual data migration is needed, and admins have control via Entra ID.
- Organizations will only be impacted if users currently use the Outlook Lite app.
- After retirement, no new installations will be possible, and eventual retirement will require users to switch to Outlook Mobile app.
- No manual migration is required. All existing data (emails, attachments, calendar entries) will be accessible via Outlook Mobile app upon login.
Microsoft recommend transitioning to the Outlook Mobile app, where ongoing development and support will continue.
As an organization action needs to be taken
- We need to update our users about this change
- We need to update the relevant documentation
- We need to encourage installation and migration to Outlook Mobile app
How to start with Microsoft Outlook
- Within the notification section in Outlook Lite app, select the Install Microsoft Outlook banner.
- OR download from Google Play Store , search for Microsoft Outlook and install the app
- Once app installed, we can log in with existing credentials to access email, calendar, and files.
