Today something different topic which is very important 🙂 Nowadays after this pandemic situations Yoga become the integral part of life or should be
21 June, we are celebrating International Yoga Day (IYD). By taking this opportunity, I am writing small article with general information and history regarding this day, benefits of Yoga in our day to day life and courses available for Yoga in India.
NOTE: I am not Yoga expert. My only purpose to write this article is to spread awareness by putting some details of this day, spreading importance of Yoga and make our LIFE BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY and FIT.

21 June Yoga Day :
- Today we are celebrating 8th International Yoga Day.
- Theme for 2022 Yoga day – “Yoga for Humanity” focusing for practicing Yoga for physical and mental well being
- Today our prime minister launched mYoga app
- “mYoga app will have yoga training videos in different languages for people across the world. This will help us achieve our ‘One World, One Health’ motto” – Our PM Shri Narendra Modiji
“Today, when the whole world is combating the coronavirus disease pandemic, yoga remains a ray of hope.” – Our PM Shri Narendra Modiji
History of IYD:
IYD is celebrated since year 2015. On 21 June 2015 1st International Yoga Day is celebrated.
On September 27, 2014 in his address to UN General Assembly, our respected prime minister Shri Narendra Modiji proposed to celebrate the International Yoga Day.
In his address our PM stated – “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.”
On December 11, 2014 draft resolution is presented in UN General Assembly, this resolution is passed by record 177 nations out of 193, this is the highest number of nations supported to any UNGC resolution.
21 June is selected to celebrate the IYD. This day has its own importance. June 21 is considered the longest day of the year for northern hemisphere. This day has also special importance in many parts of the world.
21 June 2015 is celebrated as 1st International Yoga day at Raj Path, New Delhi. On this day following two Guinness World Record happens.
- 35, 958 peoples are participated in a yoga session
- Maximum number of nationalities are participated in yoga session
Our government on the second IYD (21 June 2016) announced two yoga awards:
- International
- National

Benefits of celebrating IYD:

By started celebrating this day, I could see that awareness regarding Yoga is increased. Just to share example, in school of my both the Kids, yoga day is getting celebrated. Kids are excited they also know the name of few asanas.
Similarly, my company is celebrating Yoga day and we have couple of hours of Yoga practice. Similarly, my friend’s companies, schools, collages celebrating yoga day. At most of the places, on big grounds people are coming together and enjoying Yoga day, I could see the large number of registrations going on.
This is indication that as we started celebrating Yoga day, awareness regarding YOGA is increased. We try to understand the benefits and trying to do daily practices. Which helps to live productive life and cope with our day to day life’s stress.
Yoga: Yoga word is derived from Sankrit word – ‘yuj’ means “to unite or integrate” / “to yoke or join together”.
