Microsoft 365 – MAJOR UPDATE – ExchangePowerShell: retirement of tenant admin cmdlets to Get, Set, and Remove UserPhotos

Greetings for the day!!!

Today one more update related to Exchange online.

MAJOR UPDATE – Following Exchange PowerShell CMDLETS for User Photos are retiring next year

To execute these above CMDLETs we need to connect to Exchange Online as

#importing module - ExchangeOnlineManagement
Import-Module ExchangeOnlineManagement

#connect to Exchange Online
Connect-ExchangeOnline

#getting user photo
Get-UserPhoto -Identity prasham@knowledgejunction1.onmicrosoft.com

Output will be
Identity    : prasham
PictureData : {255, 216, 255, 224...}
Thumbprint  : 
IsValid     : True
ObjectState : New

When this will happen:

The retirement is scheduled for late March 2024

Details:

After this change the ExchangePowerShell UserPhoto cmdlets for tenant admins to Get, Set, and Remove user profile photos will no longer be usable.

Instead, we can use Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK or can administrator user photos through Azure Active Directory or through Microsoft 365 Admin Center
