Today discussing one more new feature from Microsoft related to Team meetings.

This article will also help to prepare Microsoft Teams certification – MS – 700 : Managing Microsoft Teams

New Feature: Microsoft Teams admin center: Setting for Email OTP verification for external participants to join meetings

Details

  • The Email OTP verification meeting option rollout to Targeted Release for end users.
  • The new meeting policy called “Anonymous users can join a meeting after verifying” will be available in Teams Admin Center.

  • Microsoft Teams meeting organizers will have a new meeting option to enable and require unverified (aka anonymous) participants joining meetings to verify their email addresses with a one-time password (OTP) verification code before joining the meeting

  • This new feature provides another method for unverified (anonymous) users to join meetings. They can join by email code without needing an MSA or Entra account.
  • For tenants where the Anonymous users can join meetings option is disabled, admins who want to block all unverified (anonymous) users should act. They need to update the new meeting policy setting. By mid-February, change ‘Anonymous users can join a meeting after verifying’ from “By e-mail code” to “No.
  • Attendees to verify their email with OTP prior to joining meetings is available only for meetings created by organizers that have a Teams premium license.

This message applies to Teams on Windows desktop, Teams on Mac desktop, Teams on the web, and Teams for iOS/Android.

Timeline

Targeted Release: Microsoft will begin rolling out mid-January 2024 and expect to complete by late January 2025.

General Availability (Worldwide): Microsoft will begin rolling out late March 2025 and expect to complete by early April 2025.
