What is API access in SharePoint admin center?

• When developers build SharePoint Framework solutions, they might need to connect to an API that’s secured through Microsoft Entra ID.
• Developers can specify which Microsoft Entra applications and permissions their solution requires.
• An administrator can manage the permission request from API access in the SharePoint admin center.

Feature Update: The API access page in the SharePoint admin center will soon show additional pre-authorized permissions required for functionality.

What are pre-authorized permissions?

• Pre-authorized permissions are the permissions which are required by some of the application to function correctly.
• These permissions are pre authorized by Microsoft to streamline the user experience.

How to access API access page in our tenant?

• We have multiple ways to navigate to API access page.
• Below are few approaches to navigate to API access page.
  • From Microsoft 365 admin center
  • From SharePoint admin center
  • From direct URL –  https://<Tenant name>-admin.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx?modern=true#/webApiPermissionManagement

DETAILS

• The API access page in the SharePoint admin center will show additional pre-authorized permissions required for functionality.

• The API access page in the Microsoft SharePoint admin center will display a set of additional permissions that have been automatically pre-authorized by Microsoft
• These permissions are required for SharePoint Online to function properly.
• Tenant admins can remove the permissions (and add them back to the API access page). But these actions could compromise some out-of-the-box functionalities provided by SharePoint.
• This change will be on by default and will have no impact on customers

NOTE: The API access page is only available if you have provisioned the application catalog for your tenant.
