Today we are celebrating – birth anniversary – Kalpana Chawla .

  1. Kalpana Chawla was born on 17 March 1962 in Haryana , Karnal.
  2. She studied in Tagore Bal Niketan Senior Secondary School, Karnal.
  3. She secured first rank in university in aeronautical engineering course.
  4. It was a imagination for Kalpana to get a job in NASA.
  5. In 1962, she received her Master of Science MS in Aerospace Engineering from Texas.
  6. She got another Master of Science MS degree in 1986
  7. She fulfilled her determination and showed off the world.
  8. She not only passed the degree course in Aeronautics Engineering but also got the first rank in the university and got the gold medal from Punjab University.
  9. She did PHD in aerospace engineering in 1988 from the University of Colorado Boulder.
  10. Her infant dream of finding out what lies beyond the blue-eyed space was now becoming a reality.
  11. Kalpana Chawla loved flying, hiking, back-packing, and reading. 
  12. Kalpana Chawla, PhD, was an engineer, pilot, and astronaut who spent more than 30 days in space over two Space Shuttle missions.
  13. She worked on the development of the Robotic Situational Awareness Display, a tool to help astronauts operate robotic arms. She also tested space shuttle control software.
  14. She later continued aerodynamics research in the private sector. In 1991 Chawla became a United States citizen. NASA selected Chawla as an astronaut in late 1994 and then she began astronaut training in 1995.
  15. She was also known as Indian – American astronaut.
  16. Flying in space was Kalpana Chawla’s dream.
  17. her fathers name was Banarasi Lal Chawla.
  18. Her mothers name was Sanjyoti Chawla.
  19. She was one of the seven crew members who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster when the spacecraft disintegrated during its re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere on 1 February 2003.

Some few achievements of Kalpana Chawla 🙂

  1. She was the first Indian women to go into the space.
  2. Kalpana Chawla’s great achievement was that she was selected to go into space.
  3. Kalpana Chawla was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor and the NASA Distinguished Service Medal.
  4.  She was the first Indian – American astronaut and first Indian woman in space.
