Microsoft 365 Governance – Get all admins in a tenant

Greetings for the day!!!

Today small but important article and on my favorite topic – Microsoft 365 Governance.

One of the activity or part of Microsoft 365 Governance is to limit the number of admins. Like, there should not be more that 3-4 or Global Administrators or SharePoint Administrators.

Periodically, as a Microsoft 365 tenant admin, I want to evaluate how many users have different roles. I also want to know who holds respective roles like Global Administrator or SharePoint administrator.

Today, we are going to discuss an important topic in this article. It explains how to get a list of all users having roles assigned from the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Detailed Steps

• Navigate to Microsoft 365 admin center either through office 365 portal or from direct link – https://admin.microsoft.com/
• From office portal – navigate to URL – https://portal.office.com
  • We have detailed article for navigating to Microsoft 365 admin center – Microsoft 365 – Navigating to Microsoft 365 admin center
• Once we are on Microsoft 365 admin center, we could navigate to “ROLEs“

• From the left pane of admin center, click on “Roles” or expand the “Roles” section as

• As we expand Roles section, we have two sections
  • Role assignments
  • Administrative units
• Click on “Role assignments“, we will be navigated to “Role assignments” page as

• On this page we have list of all roles available

• If we click on any role, we will get the roles details
  • Details about to whom this role should be assigned
  • Which operation these users can do or permissions for this role
  • Number of users assigned to this role
  • List of users to those list is assigned
• Here, I am clicking on “Global Administrator” roles.
• Left with all the details of “Global Administrator” will open
