Today sharing new feature related to Microsoft Exchange Online
New Feature: Microsoft Exchange Online: New Message Trace will be generally available; legacy Message Trace will retire
Details
- The new Message Trace in Microsoft Exchange Online will be generally available from mid-June to late July 2025
- Legacy Message Trace retiring on September 1, 2025
- This new experience offers improved performance, modern design, and enhanced feature parity
- New PowerShell cmdlets (
Get-MessageTraceV2,Get-MessageTraceDetailV2) will be available - The legacy Message Trace experience and cmdlets (
Get-MessageTrace,Get-MessageTraceDetail) will remain available in parallel for several months to support the transition - Admins can access it via Exchange admin center > Mail flow > Message Trace

Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID – 495489 – Exchange: New Message Trace in Exchange Online

- Retirement of legacy Message Trace begins September 1, 2025
- Starting September 1, 2025, the below features will start deprecating:
- Legacy Message Trace UI in EAC.
- Legacy cmdlets (
Get-MessageTrace,Get-MessageTraceDetail). - Reporting Web Service support for Message Trace data
Action needs to be taken
- We want to notify our admins and/or users about this change
- We need to update internal documentation
- We need to update any automation or scripts using legacy cmdlets to use the new versions by August 31, 2025
