Today one more update from Microsoft related to Channel creation in Teams

FEATURE UPDATE – Promote channel creation

Details

• Microsoft is promoting the Teams channel creation
• Microsoft elevated the channel creation option to the top, making it easier for users to create channels
• As in below figure, from Teams web or desktop client, if we click on “+” button, we will see options like
  • Create channel
  • Create team
  • Join team
• Please notice new update – “Create channel” option / link is promoted. “Create channel” option is on the top now

Current approach and problem

• Currently – Users create team at the top level, with channel creation as a per team level option
• Problem with current approach – Users end up creating more teams, where it could have been channels within teams, leading to team proliferation and difficulty in managing teams.
• To address this issue, Microsoft is promoting channel creation.

REASON behind this update

• Channels being the main hub of collaboration, we made it easier for users to create channels
• Making easier to create channels for users
• This will help in managing Teams
• This will reduce team proliferation
• Users will need to select the team in which they want to host the channel
