Greetings.

Today one more major update related to SharePoint 2013 workflows.

MAJOR UPDATE : SharePoint 2013 workflows will be retired with new tenants affected from April 2, 2024, and existing tenants from April 2, 2026.

Details

  • SharePoint 2013 workflows will be retired with new tenants affected from April 2, 2024, and existing tenants from April 2, 2026.
  • Power Automate as the universal solution to workflow
  • Starting April 2nd, 2024, SharePoint 2013 workflows will be turned off for any newly created tenants
  • Starting April 2nd, 2026, Microsoft will remove the ability to run, or create and execute SharePoint 2013 workflows for existing tenants.
  • This means if in our organization we are using using SharePoint 2013, those wont run. We need to migrate those to Power Automate.
  • Existing workflows can only be viewed as raw XML files once SharePoint 2013 workflow has been turned off.

Action need to be taken in my organization

  • We need to inform our workflow development team
  • Need to start training on Power Automate
  • We need to update our training document if any available
  • Get the list of all SharePoint 2013 workflows using – Microsoft 365 Assessment tool – We will have detailed next article on Microsoft 365 Assessment tool
  • Microsoft is providing detailed guidance on migration from workflows to Power Automate, please review it – Guidance: Migrate from classic workflows to Power Automate flows in SharePoint

It’s time to – Turn off creation of new SharePoint 2013 workflows on your tenant

Connect-SPOService -Url https://<tenant>-admin.sharepoint.com
Set-SPOTenant -StopNew2013Workflows $TRUE
